niklas elert (b. 1983) started his doctoral studies in economics at Örebro University in 2011. His research concerns entrepreneurship, firm growth and firm entry. This is his doctoral thesis.
The topic of this thesis is economic dynamism, that process of structural transformation or creative destruction that precedes and accompanies innovation, knowledge evolution and economic growth. Specifically, it addresses two important facets of this dynamism, namely, firm entry and firm growth. All studies are based on a dataset covering all Swedish limited liability firms between 1997 and 2010. The five articles most notably contribute to the literature with respect to their empirical findings and public policy implications.
