ulrica thunberg was born in 1967, and grew up in Avesta and Lidköping. She started her medical career as a nurse assistant, and a few years later began studying at the University of Umeå. She graduated in 1995, and moved to Jönköping for two years of internship. After prolonged training in first the Department of General Surgery and then the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, she moved to Örebro to continue her training as a resident physician in otorhinolaryngology and head & neck surgery. She received a specialist degree in 2005, and is currently working as a consultant at Örebro University Hospital. She has travelled to Kenya several times to perform pro bono surgery and train the local staff, which is work she aims to continue. She became a PhD student in 2011 at the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Örebro, under the supervision of Professor Bo Söderquist and in cooperation with Associate Professor Svante Hugosson.
Chronic rhinosinusitis is a common disease affecting about 10% of European people. The cause of the disease is not clear, but Staphylococcus aureus has been suggested to have an impact. This thesis focuses on the potential impact of S. aureus and the clinical features of CRS in a long-term perspective.
