Today’s technology level, the system complexity and the vast amount of calculation power available requires a new way of thinking in the field of conceptual aircraft design: Aircraft Systems Conceptual Design. This thesis is a new approach to conceptual aircraft design from a mul-ti-disciplinary Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) point of view, unifying mechanical engineering, systems engineering and software engineering.
After a thorough evaluation of different modelling approaches, a framework strategy around a parametric XML-based database incor-porating the CAD domain in support of the design task is given. Based on the special needs within the conceptual design phase, model inte-gration scenarios backed by Knowledge-Based Engineering (KBE) are presented. The future vision of this publication topic is to use Aircraft Systems Conceptual Design to bring together (unified) modelling and graph-based design.
