aminur rahman born on October 1st 1984 at Naogaon, Bangladesh, has earned a BSc degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh in 2008. At the University of Skövde he completed an MSc degree in molecular biology in 2010 and an MSc degree in biomedicine in 2011. Since 2012 Mr. Rahman has been registered as a doctoral student at the Örebro University, Sweden. But his PhD position was funded by the University of Skövde, Sweden where he performed most of his research experiments. During his tenure as a doctoral student Mr. Rahman has been an active representative of PhD students at the Systems Biology Research Center and responsible for organizing seminars and work-shops at the University of Skövde.
Mr. Rahman’s research involved isolation and characterization of novel bacterial strains that can be used for degradation or reduction of the toxic substances in the ecosystem. Constant release of toxic metals, including arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead and nickel, in water by anthropogenic activities contributing to environmental pollution worldwide, poses severe threats to the ecosystem. These carcinogenic heavy metals can severely impact on human health, resul-ting in neurological and vascular disorders, and system-wide organ damage or failure. Therefore, the practical implications of this research are to protect millions of people and their environment from lethal contamination with the effluents containing toxic metals disposed from the industries. In addition to human health this research also attempts to protect the health of wild and domestic animals from consuming contaminated fodder (straw, grass, vegetables etc.), and thus contributing to further protection of human health from severe poisoning through meat-milk pathway.
