Framtida studier

Det finns ett tydligt negativt samband mellan den enskilt största ägarens procentuella kontroll över fotbollsklubben och fotbollsklubbens nettomarginal på spelarhandel. Detta mått på finansiell prestation i fotbollsklubbar borde vidareutvecklas och appliceras i kommande studier. Det konstruerade finansiella prestationmåttet som används i denna studie skiljer sig

ett jämförbart effektivitetsmått istället för ett absolut mått som inte är anpassat efter FFP regulationerna. I och med FFP regulationer har omsättningens betydelse kommit att bli av högsta betydelse för klubbarna då det avgör hur mycket de faktiskt får spendera på spelarhandel (Franck, 2014; Peeters & Szymanski, 2014). Ett mått som tar hänsyn till detta är därmed av stor vikt för rättvisande resultat i framtida studier.

Förslagsvis kan en undersökning på sambandet mellan ägarstrukturen i klubbar som befinner sig i denna studiens målpopulation och nettomarginalen på spelarhandel göras. Transfermarkt.com och deras utförliga databas med historik över spelarhandel möjliggör en totalundersökning för att testa sambandet i större skala om tid och ekonomiska medel för en sådan studie finns. Ett alternativ kan även vara en stickprovsundersökning med all professionell europeisk fotboll som målpopulation. Insikterna från en sådan studie skulle i en större utsträckning kunna generaliseras gentemot den valda målpopulationen. Som framhävt under begränsningar bör också en annan operationalisering av variablerna ägarstruktur och sportslig prestation övervägas vid framtida studier.

Många tidigare studier (e.g. Acero et al., 2017; Breuer & Rohde, 2016b; Breuer & Rohde, 2018; Durand et al., 2017) har likt denna enbart kollat på tidsperioden antingen före eller efter införandet av FFP regulationerna. Vidare forskning kan med fördel belysa en period som sträcker sig både före och efter säsongen 2011/2012 då de trädde i kraft. En sådan studie skulle innebära en möjlighet att utvärdera om det faktiskt skett en förändring i fotbollsklubbarnas ekonomiska aktivitet, vilket ursprungligen var tanken med att införa regulationerna.
