Vårdaren bär det yttersta ansvaret för att främja patientens hälsa och lindra individens lidande som i den här studien var bland annat oro, ångest och svimningskänsla. Sjuksköterskans kliniska arbete ska utgå från en humanistisk människosyn, etiskt förhållningssätt och bedriva en personcentrerad vård och därmed utgå från individen. Om vården inte utgår från individens förutsättningar kan det få negativa konsekvenser för patienten. Ett sätt att undvika detta är att vårdaren visar empati för den enskilde personen i situationer där nålar och stick ingår. För att istället uppnå positiva upplevelser hos patienten är bemötande och kommunikation av stor vikt. Likväl som visualisering och distraktion har visat sig ha goda effekter mot nålrädsla.
