Being Made to Mid-West
Mill and to Smelter.
Black Hawk, Colo., Feb. 27".-The Hawkeye Mining company, operating the Atlantic mine, two and one-half miles northeast of Black Hawk, re-ports another big strike in lead-silver are, which company officers say is perhaps the very' largest strike made in Gilpin county in several years. It
is estimated that $200,000worth of ore has been opened in the last 30 days. While driving west on the original vein which has produced over $23,000 at a depth of 65 feet, the Atlantic vein was encountered and wnne unv-Ing south on the Atlantic vein the new strike was made by hitting an unknown vein.
This new vein when firSt hit was four feet thick, all are, and has been drifted on a distance of 60 feet.
Go-ing west, the vein opened up to seven feet in width with ore assaying from
12.60 ounces silver and 4 per cent lead to '35 ounces silver and 8 per cent lead. Going east, real picture ore was found, assaying way up in both silver and lead. The pay streak is about two and one-half feet wide with about two feet of mill ore.
According to agreement, L. G. Oav-nah, manager of the mine, has agreed to furnish the Mid-west mill at Black Hawk, Colo., 25 tons of ore a day and
3
he has three teams hauling ore from -the mine to -the mill. The first classI
