Board of Directors
The Montezuma Valley Irrigation Co. Cortez, Colorado
Gentlemen:
Having been an employee of The Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company the greater part of the past twenty—five years and during this period having served in the maintenance department, as ditch rider, and in my present position as watermester, I think that through py
experience in these departments I have become familiar enough with the general operation of the system to entitle me to your consideration for the position of superintendent.
As you know I am not an engineer, but I think as do many of the stockholders of the company, that at mak times when engineering services are required, resident engineers can be employed as they are needed. By eliminating my present position the saving would more than offset engineering expense, and in the course of time a material saving could be affected.
Trusting that I may have your considerations I remain, respectfully yours,
CORTEZ

5-IE MONTEZUMA VALLEY IRRIGATION CO. CORTEZ, COLORADO
August 13,1946
To the Board of Directors—
of The Montezuma Valley Irrigation Co. Gentlemen:
The contract between the Company and myself expires January
232
1947,
which is less than six months away.In justice to the stockholders, the board of directors of the company and myself, I deem it necessary to inform you, that at the expiration of the contract, I desire to releive myself of the active duties as superintendent of the company.
From my more than twenty five years of experience on the project: My judgment is that some one should be selected to take my plate soon, so that this individual might have SOMB of the benefits of my experience. Of course you are aware, thqt without some counsil and guidance at this time, it will be difficult for a successor to safely and economically handle all the problems with which he will Jam certainly be confronted.
Some of the reasons I have for wishing to retire from the active service as superintendent are:
First — Old age and the physical and mental disabilities incident thereto.
Second — My inability to secure competent labor, equipment and miamiais admix materials at reasonable cost, to maintain the physical system in a
reasonable workable condition.
Third — The remuneration is at present not comsurate with the experience, knowledge and duties involved.
Fourth — My desire to follow my hobby.
I wish to say here, that I have had a lot of pleasure out of the work that has been done in the quarter of a century. I have also spent many sleepless hours and suffered a lot of grief.
I also want to thank the board of directors for all the favors extended and the confidence which by word and deed thay have manifested in my ability and honesty.
I assure you and every stockholder it is with deepest regret that I have decided to follow this course.
Sincerely yours, W.L. Glenn.
