The Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland have the pleasure to invite you to a lecture on Thursday October 9, 11.00-12.30 with Professor Leszek Balcerowicz from the Warsaw School of Economics on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of political and economic transformation of Poland.
Professor Balcerowicz is the former finance minister (1989-1991) and deputy prime minister (1997-2000) of Poland. He was the principal architect of Poland’s successful economic transformation after the collapse of communism, now commonly known as the ‘Balcerowicz plan’. He later served as governor of the National Bank of Poland (2001-2007). He was also the chairman of the Freedom Union, a free market - oriented party (1995 - 2000).
Leszek Balcerowicz is a recipient of honorary doctorates from more than 20 universities around the world and numerous awards, including Poland's highest decoration – Order of the White Eagle – for his contribution to the systemic transformation and the 2014 Milton Friedman Prize for Advancing Liberty.
The lecture will be introduced and chaired by Torbjörn Becker, Director of SITE.
