for McPhee Recreation Area
A $3.8 million Bureau of Reclamation contract was awarded September 6, 1983, for construction of the McPhee Recreation Area, a feature of the Dolores Project, located 5 miles west of Dolores, Colo., Secretary of the Interior James Watt said today.
Watt said the $3,762,277 contract went to Stratton Bros. Construction Co. of Hurricane, Utah, the lowest of seven bidders.
Senators Bill Armstrong and Gary Hart and Congressman Ray Kogovsek are to be commended for their support of Reclamation's Dolores Project. Benefits will come not only to those in the project's immediate area, but also to those in many other areas of Colorado," said Watt.
Work to be done will include construction of asphalt-surfaced roads and parking areas, a sewer system, a fish cleaning station and sanitary dump, an entrance station, an operation and maintenance building, and restrooms. Site landscaping will also be provided. The work is scheduled to be completed within 15 months.
Secretary Watt said 80 different jobs could be provided during the life of this contract, with a salary total of approximately $1.9 million. "We feel this will help to further improve the employment situation in the Utah-Colorado
region," Watt added, "as well as improve recreation facilities for a growing number of visitors."
