Bakgrund
Denna analys visar statistik om vetenskapliga publikationer som kan kopplas till hållbar utveckling med utgångspunkt i FN:s 17 globala mål för hållbar utveckling eller Sustainable Development Goals som det kommer benämnas vidare i analysen (SDG) vilka är en del av Agenda 2030.
Analysen är en sökmetod som utvecklades av Håkan Carlsson, bibliotekskanslichef på Göteborgs universitet.1 Sökmetoden är baserad på olika engelskspråkiga nyckelordskombinationer och specifika tidskrifter, och den kan söka ut vetenskapliga publikationer om hållbar utveckling i Web of Science (WoS) databas. I Appendix 1 finns de specifika söktermskombinationer som har använts i denna analys.
Sökmetodens fördel är de avancerade nyckelordskombinationer vilket resulterar i relevanta publikationer. En annan stor fördel är att resultatet kan kopplas till de 17 globala målen.
Begränsningarna med sökmetoden är att söktermskombinationerna och nyckelordskombinationerna är specifikt utformad efter WoS databas, som framförallt innehåller engelskspråkiga tidskriftsartiklar.
Metoden är också något subjektiv vilket dessvärre är oundvikligt vid utsökning ett så pass stort område.
För att reducera subjektiviteten i metoden har Håkan Carlsson konsulterat flera sakkunniga för att bidra med input och korrigera söktermerna. Metod har bättre träffsäkerhet tidigare använd metod. Metoden som tidigare användes gav flera irrelevanta träffar för syftet och har endast cirka 50 enkla söktermer.
Analysen baseras på en sökning som utfördes i februari 2020 i Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) databasen. Alla publikationstyper var inkluderade, även konferensbidrag och editorialt material2. Ämnen som kopplas hållbar utveckling diskuteras även mycket utanför de traditionella tidskriftsartiklarna vilket innebär att sökmetoden inte fångar upp alla bidrag till forskningen inom området hållbar utveckling.
Bland annat är böcker och bokkapitel inte del av WoSCC. Detta innebär att vissa forskningsämnen som traditionellt publicerar många böcker framförallt inom humaniora är något underrepresenterad i WoS.
Tidsperioden för utsökningen är avgränsad till tio år, 2010–2019. Denna period har hyfsat bra täckning i Stockholms universitets egen publikationsdatabas DiVA, som underlättar analyser på institutionsnivå.
Resultat
Tabell 1 visar en översikt av antal publikationer i WoS databas och andelen som kan kopplas till de 17 globala hållbarhetsmålen (SDG), i förhållande till publikationer över hela världen ner till Sverige och SU nivå.

Tabell 1 visar antal publikationer för hela världen ökar från cirka 2 miljoner i 2010 till cirka 3 miljoner i 2019. Andelen publikationer som är kopplade till SDG ökar från 5 % till nästan 10 %. Liknande ökningen kan observeras för Sverige och SU, både antal och andel publikationer som kan kopplas till SDG ökar ständigt. Andelen publikationer i Sverige som kan kopplas till SDG:erna (8-13%) är högre än
världsgenomsnitten (5-10%), och SU:s andel av publikationer kopplat till SDG:erna (15-20%) är högre än i Sverige. År 2019 kan nästan 20 % av publikationer från SU kopplas till SDG:erna, jämfört med 13 % i Sverige och 9 % i hela världen.
Tabell 2 visar antal publikationer som kan kopplas till dem 17 olika SDG:erna för världen, Sverige och SU.
Antal publikationer inom de olika SDG:erna varierar kraftig. Vissa områden har endast några tiotusen publikationer i hela världen under den senaste 10 år, vissa andra har flera hundratusen. Sverige producerade 2,5 % av SDG publikationer jämfört med hela världen vilket är betydlig högre än Sveriges totala andel av publikationer globalt (1,4 %). SU:s andel av Sveriges produktion av SDG publikationer är 15 % vilket närstan är dubbelt så högt som SU:s andel av de totala publikationerna i Sverige (8 %).

Några område är särskilt prioriterade i Sverige, bland annat SDG nummer " 5. Gender Equality" och "13.
Climate Action", där mer än 3 % av världens alla publikationer inom dessa område kommer från Sverige.
På SU är framförallt SDG nummer "14. Life below water" och "1. No poverty" som är överrepresenterade jämfört med Sverige.
Utifrån tabell 3 går det att utgöra att vissa SDG områden är överrepresenterade på vissa lärosäten, bland annat har SLU har publicerat nästan 3000 publikationer inom SDG nummer "15. Life on land", KI har fler än 1500 inom SDG nummer "3. Good health and well-being" och KTH har fler än 1300 publikationer inom SDG nummer "7. Affordable and clean energy". KI, SLU och KTH är specialiserade lärosäte med tydlig koppling till de olika SDG områden vilket ger en indikation på att metodens resultat är mer tillförlitligt än den förra metoden som SU nyttjade. De flesta publikationer i Sverige är kopplade till SDG nummer "13. Climate action" och "15. Life on Land", där de flesta lärosäte har flertalet publikationer.

SU är ledande inom tre av de 17 globala målen inom Sverige, SDG nummer "1. No poverty", "13. Climate action” och "14. life below water". Tabell 4 visar vilka lärosäten har mest publikationer inom de 17 olika målen. Tabellen också visar också en teoretisk världsranking av lärosätena. Rankningen visar vilken plats de ledande svenska lärosätena får om man rangordnar världens alla lärosäte enligt antal publikationer inom ett visst SDG mål.

Tabell 4 visar att det är SLU som har flest publikationer i Sverige inom fyra SDG områden. KI, SU, LU och KTH har flest publikationer inom 3 områden var och GU inom ett område. Jämförelsen mellan dessa lärosäten i tabell 4, med den sista kolumnen av tabell 3 visar att SLU har minst total antal publikationer (ca. 16000 mellan 2010 och 2019) bland de observerade lärosätena, dock är SLU ledande inom flera SDG områden. Vad det gäller SDG nummer "2. Zero hunger" är SLU är på plats 23 bland alla lärosäten i hela världen enligt antal publikationer. Det är också anmärkningsvärt att UU är på plats 2 efter LU vad det gäller totala antal publikationer och trots detta inte har högre placering inom de 17 områdena jämfört med de andra svenska lärosätena.
Tabell 5 visar antal publikationer inom SDG områdena på de olika institutionerna vid SU. WoS databasen innehåller ingen kvalitetssäkrad information om SU:s institutioner, därför är institutionstillhörighet hämtad från SU:s publikationsdatabas DiVA med hjälp av automatiskt matchningen av WoS data till DiVA data.

Enligt Tabell 5 är Stockholm Resilience Centre, Institutionen för naturgeografi, Institutionen för miljövetenskap och analytisk kemi, Institutionen för ekologi och miljö och botanik de fyra institutioner som har publicerat fler än 500 publikationer de senaste 10 år inom de SDG områden. En del institutioner har en hög andel SDG publikationer, t.ex. Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholms universitets
Östersjöcentrum och Stockholm Environment Institute. Dessa producerar forskning som kan tydligt
kopplas till SDG målen. Institutionen för material- och miljökemi (MMK) har relativt låg andel SDG publikationer trots att institutionen har en inriktning inom miljö. Det är ett känt problem att kemiområdet inte representerat bland de 17 globala målen, dock har forskning inom kemi flera områden som kan kopplas till något av målen. I denna analys används endast söktermer som kan kopplas till de globala målen, därför är antal publikationer inom kemi är något underrepresenterad.
Tabell 6 visar en mer detaljerad bild om SU institutioner och Tabell 6. Antal publikationer inom de olika SDG målen för SU institutioner (2010-2019). Tabellen visar endast institutioner som har minst 10 publikationer inom minst ett område.

Tabell 6 visar tydlig vilka SU institutioner som har publicerat mycket inom ett visst SDG område.
Naturvetenskapliga institutioner som forskar inom miljörelaterade ämnen dominerar tabellen. Det finns några institutioner från det HumSam området som har publicerat relativt mycket inom vissa ämnen:
t.ex. Statsvetenskap i SDG 16, Folkhälsovetenskap i SDG 3, Historiska i SDG 13.
Diskussion
Analysens resultat kan ge en fingervisning om SU:s position inom hållbarhetsforskning. Vi får inte glömma att analysen handlar framförallt om engelskspråkiga vetenskapliga tidskriftsartiklar som är indexerade i Web of Science databasen. Andra vetenskapliga publikationer (t.ex. svenskspråkiga rapporter, böcker och bokkapitel) som skulle kunna kopplas till SDG målen är inte redovisade här.
Det är uppenbart från Tabell 1 att Sverige och specifikt SU producerar flera publikationer om forskning inom SDG områden än resten av världen. Både andelen och antalet SDG publikationer ökar varje år mellan 2010 och 2019, som visar att forskningen inom dessa områden fått större vikt under det senaste decenniet.
Det varierar mycket mellan de svenska lärosätena inom vilka områden de publicerar mest. Naturligtvis har KI flertalet av publikationer inom SDG 3 (Good health and well-being) då deras forskning är inom medicinsk akademisk forskning. Likadant gällerför SLU som har många publikationer inom SDG 2 (Zero hunger) och SDG 15 (Life on Land) då SLU:s forskning är inriktad på mat och matproduktion bland annat.
SU har särskilt många publikationer inom SDG 1 (No Poverty), 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life Below Water) jämfört med de andra svenska lärosätena.
Några SU institutioner har väldig många publikationer som kan kopplas till SDG målen: Stockholm Resilience Centre, Naturgeografi, Miljövetenskap och analytisk kemi, Ekologi, miljö och botanik.
Däremot vissa av de största SU institutioner, som har flest total antal publikationer, har inte särskilt många som kan direkt kopplas till SDG målen (Astronomi, Fysikum eller Psykologi).
