One is master of his house
To be married and henpecked must be an excruciating torment
I hardly think my wife would dare to bully me, although she does have the bottles, glasses and jugs under lock and key, but I am otherwise the master in my house.
I do exactly as I please and rely on my own judgment in everything.
My wife doesn’t have the slightest influence on my thinking.
It’s true that I’m not allowed to use snuff, but otherwise I am the master of my house.
I sometimes take out my pipe, and I always enjoy lighting up, but as my wife cannot tolerate smoke
it is unlikely to happen very often.
She goes and hides my pipe and tobacco, but otherwise I am the master of my house.
If as sometimes happens I become thirsty in the middle of the night Then, of course, I may have problems
going to fetch water in the dark.
I dare not light a candle on account of my wife, but otherwise I am the master of my house.
If the children are making a commotion, clawing each other and pulling hair, and I try to take an authoritative tone and punish them in an appropriate way,
then I am quite abruptly thrown out, but otherwise I am the master of my house.
I go out whenever I have the urge, and return whenever I like.
But one must keep in mind
when the door is locked in the evening, for a late night beer can be chancy, but otherwise I am the master of my house.
To be a henpecked married man would make me really embarrassed.
I get along with my wife as much as I can, and why should I be contrary?
If she gets angry, I don’t make a fuss, for I will be master of my house.
