Denna studies resultat indikerar på en delvis ökning av omfattningen av CSR-aktiviteter under Covid-19 pandemin. Då en kvantitativ forskningsstrategi tillämpades för denna studie möjliggjordes det att finna samband mellan Covid-19-pandemin och CSR-aktiviteter. Denna forskningsstrategi har däremot sina begränsningar. Studiens diskussion bygger på tolkningar baserade på tidigare forskning, men med en mer kvalitativt inriktad

forskningsstrategi hade det varit möjligt att bidragit med en djupare förståelse för varför svenska börsbolag i vissa hänseenden ökade omfattningen av sina CSR-aktiviteter under Covid-19-pandemin specifikt. Detta för att studera om orsakerna till ökningen går i linje med resultat från tidigare forskning om varför CSR-aktiviteter ökar under en oförutsedd, ej företagsspecifik kris. En kvalitativ studie hade exempelvis kunnat bidra med en djupare förståelse varför omfattningen av CSR-aktiviteter kopplade till den miljömässiga och den

sociala CSR-dimensionen ökade under Covid-19-pandemin, medan omfattningen av CSR- aktiviteterna kopplade till den ekonomiska CSR-dimensionen förblev oförändrad.

Denna studie utfördes året efter Covid-19 utbrottet och fortfarande var klassificerat som en pandemi. Därmed begränsades möjligheterna att studera Covid-19-pandemins effekter på omfattningen av CSR-aktiviteter till att enbart kunna jämföra en period före och en period under Covid-19-pandemin. Senare forskning hade därför kunnat inkluderat perioden efter pandemin för att studera om ökning av omfattningen av CSR-aktiviteter kvarhålls efter pandemin, eller om de ökningar av omfattningen av CSR-aktiviteter som denna studie observerade visas återgår till de nivåer av omfattningen av CSR-aktiviteter som svenska börsbolag hade perioden före Covid-19-pandemin. Fortsatt forskning hade även genom att studera flera år av omfattningen av CSR-aktiviteter kunnat urskilja den allmänna trenden på ett tydligare sätt. Genom att utföra en sådan studie skulle det vara möjligt att avgöra om hela den visade ökningen av miljömässiga och sociala CSR-aktiviteter kan förklaras av Covid-19-pandemin eller om delar beror på den allmänna positiva trenden av CSR- aktiviteter.

Studiens tidsram medförde konsekvenser, då studiens urval efter ett visst bortfall, visades vara något snedfördelat och inte fullt representativt i förhållande till den totala

populationen av svenska börsbolag. Detta medförde vissa begränsningar i studiens generaliserbarhet. Genom att avvakta tills alla svenska börsbolag delgett årsredovisningar för år 2020 hade en totalundersökning av svenska börsbolag kunnat genomföras. På så sätt hade fortsatt forskning kunnat undvika begränsningen som denna studies har med dess generaliserbarhet.

Möjligheten att generalisera studiens slutsats är begränsad, då det är den svenska kontexten av börsbolag som studerats. Därför hade fortsatt forskning kunnat bidra med ytterligare kunskap inom forskningsområdet genom att studera andra geografiska kontexter. Detta för att bedöma om den svenska kontexten går i linje med exempelvis en europeisk eller global kontext om Covid-19-pandemins påverkan på omfattningen av företags CSR-aktiviteter. I detta finns ett forskningsvärde då Sverige haft en säregen strategi vid hanteringen av Covid-19-pandemins konsekvenser.
