7.3 Förslag till framtida forskning
Framtida forskning kan med fördel beakta kognitiv bas och värderingar samt andra
psykologiska karaktärsdrag hos cheferna. Ett förslag är genom att göra en kvalitativ studie för att få en djupare förståelse av faktorerna bakom chefspositionen. En kvalitativ studie kan med fördel även resultera i ett större antal underliggande faktorer som kan beaktas och testat mot företags kapitalstruktur eller andra organisatoriska strategier, resultat och prestationer, i enlighet med förslag av UET. Ett exempel är att undersöka fall där chefer har dömts för större förseelser och olagliga handlingar, såsom penningtvätt eller skattebedrägerier och liknande, som kan ha en större effekt på chefernas psykologiska orientering. En begränsning i denna studie var omvänd kausalitet, något framtida forskning skulle kunna involvera. Kausala förhållanden hade kunnat undersökas för att ta reda på huruvida det är den oberoende variabeln som påverkar den beroende eller om det egentligen faktiskt är den beroende som påverkar den oberoende. I en studie liknande denna skulle detta omvänt innebära en
undersökning kring huruvida kapitalstrukturen i ett företag kan påverka vilka karaktärsdrag ledningspersoner i företaget har.
Utredning för framtida forskning kan vidare vara att ta hänsyn till chefernas
utbildningsområden och se om olika områden påverkar kapitalstrukturen olika. Ett annat sätt att utforska förhållanden inom detta område kan vara att se om olika personer på samma position i ett företag har olika effekter på det strategiska beslutet eller något av företags andra prestationer. Detta skulle till exempel innebära att mäta och jämföra ett företags nuvarande CEO:s karaktärsdrag och sedan undersöka samma typ av karaktärsdrag för den person som den nuvarande CEO:n ersatte. Denna studie tog inte hänsyn till banker på grund av deras annorlunda kapitalstruktur, däremot skulle det vara en intressant idé att undersöka effekten av chefers karaktärsdrag inom banker. Ett sista förslag är att undersöka förhållanden mellan enskilda chefer och mindre, icke-noterade företag, kanske med hjälp av en forskningsmetod som är baserad på och strukturerad kring enkäter och undersökningar.
