En hjärtinfarkt upplevs som en chockartad och omtumlande händelse för de flesta, både kvinnor och män. Konsekvenserna efter hjärtinfarkten är många, såsom utmattning, ångest, oro och en rädsla för att dö. Trots konsekvenserna och rädslan för att anstränga det sjuka hjärtat, gav hjärtinfarkten många en motivation till livsstilsförändring och minimera de faktorer som kunde inverka negativt på livet. Anhöriga hade en stor betydelse för tillfrisknandet och var ett stort stöd för många. De flesta kände att de saknade stöd och adekvat information från sjukvården. Vårdpersonal kan med fördel läsa denna litteraturstudie för att få ökad förståelse för de erfarenheter som kan upplevas efter en hjärtinfarkt och kan bidra med kunskap till att utforma eftervården.
