Student Support for Faculty_Instructions and Request Form_2021Jan27.docx;

Dear Faculty,

With the fall behind us and the spring semester here, I would like to thank you for all you are doing for the CSU community and beyond. As the pandemic con nues, I want to recognize the tremendous impact on your workload, personal lives, and overall morale. This is even more likely the case for those of you who are parents and caregivers, adding on addi onal responsibili es such as guiding your children’s educa on or providing elder care.

In the Fall and Spring semesters, faculty have been able to apply to receive funds to hire an undergraduate or graduate student assistant to help with research and professional responsibili es. I am augmen ng the effort that is already underway through the Teaching Con nuity and Recovery Team (TCRT) so that faculty, who have not received support for the Spring 2021 semester, have an addi onal opportunity to apply if needed. If you have not already requested funding for the Spring 2021 semester, you are encouraged to apply for funding.

I encourage all eligible faculty with addi onal needs to apply for this assistance. The process involves comple ng a short applica on (a ached) and submi ng it to your department head/chair, associate dean for

academic/undergraduate affairs, and Vice Provost Kelly Long. There are three rounds for review of applica ons. For those of you interested in learning more, please find the details and request form a ached.

Thank you again for all you are doing and for helping us with a strong start to the semester!

Sincerely,

Mary

Mary E. Pedersen I Provost and Executive Vice President

Colorado State University

How to Apply for the COVID-19 Teaching & Research Student Employment Initiative

There will be three decision-making dates. Please have your requests to us at least two days prior to the review dates.

• Round 1: February 5 (request due February 3) • Round 2: February 26 (request due February 24) Round 3: March 12 (request due March 10)

Please complete the application table below. Requests for student employment funds should be

submitted directly to your department chair/head, associate dean for academics/undergraduate affairs, and Vice Provost Kelly Long (Kelly.Long@ColoState.edu) who leads the Teaching Continuity and

Recovery Team. Please also CC Kristin.Mravinec@ColoState.edu and Cheyenne.Hall@ColoState.edu. We want to provide this opportunity to as many faculty and staff as possible. If you have already received funding for Spring 2021, we ask that you do not submit an additional or revised request for additional student support at this time.

Student Employment Overview

Below are ideas for how students can assist you through this employment initiative. We are open to other requests you might have for course management, teaching and research assistance. Please note that due to legal restrictions, background check requirements, and institutional liability, we are unable to send students to your homes to help directly with childcare or tutoring.

Examples of student employee support include, and are not limited to: • Laboratory preparation

Help with research project needs

• Support with technological needs (Canvas, recording lectures, running technology for online/hybrid courses, monitoring classroom online chats, etc.)

• Support with instructional materials

• Grade short, objectives quizzes and other assignments

• Organize study sessions or meeting groups to build a sense of community • Triage student questions

Guidelines for Funding Allocation

Please keep in mind the following four guidelines:

1. Effort should be made to follow CSU’s Principles of Community and extend employment opportunities that are inclusive of all students.

2. Records must be kept at the college level of the distribution of funds in spreadsheet form. 3. Requests will be funded at $13/hour – any salary above that level must be covered by the unit. 4. Units and faculty themselves must identify candidates and do the hiring. There will be no central

support for hiring processes, beyond templates we will send when we approve funding.

Hiring and Budget Details

Funding is available for student hourly appointments at the undergraduate and graduate level up to 20 hours a week. The hiring will be conducted within your department and the Provost will send funds to reimburse. Here’s what you need to know:

• Faculty will be responsible for locating their own student employee and working with the college HR professional on hiring.

• Faculty who need help in identifying potential candidates can reach out to CSU’s Career Center. • Department HR professionals will need to add student employees to the AAR TimeClock system. Faculty supervisors will need to approve student employee hours through TimeClock.

The Office of the Provost will maintain and distribute funds through designated account numbers to the college/budget officers.
