ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON JOHN STEWART

John Stewart, who becomes manager of the Brighton factory of The Great Western Sugar Company March 1, will renew acquaintance with this area in which he served as fieldman and assistant manager

immediately after the war.

Mr. Stewart was born at Salt Lake City, son of the late Bernard J. Stewart, attorney and livestock man, and Leonora Cannon Stewart.

Mr. Stewart attended high school in Salt Lake, spent one year at the University of Utah and was graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in 1934 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He majored in animal husbandry and minored in agricultural economics.

While not attending school, Mr. Stewart was engaged in livestock and ranching business east of Salt Lake City. He was assistant county agent for Box Elder county, Utah, from 1934 to 1936 when he entered Great Western service as a fieldman at Longmont. He

continued at Longmont until 1941 when he was called into active service, having been commissioned as early as 1934 as a second lieutenant in the organized reserves. Going into war service as a first lieutenant he remained on active duty until his release December 27, 1945 as a lieutenant-colonel and battalion commander. Most of his service was in anti-aircraft artillery, the last nine months being with the infantry.

Following the war he resumed Great Western service as fieldman at Brighton October 15, 1945 and became assistant manager at Brighton and Ft. Lupton March 1, 1948.

In July, 1948 he became manager of the Ovid factory and in 1952 was appointed manager at Fort Collins. In 1958 he was made manager of both the Fort Collins and Windsor factory districts.

Mr. Stewart was mar~ied to Miss Belle Fillmore of Provo, Utah in 1937. They have three daughters and one son. The daughters are

Mrs. Dennis M. Baker of Boise, Ida.; Mrs. Robert B. Holbrook of Berkeley, Calif. and Ruth Stewart, now a junior at Brigham Young University, Provo. Their son John is a sophomore in high school.

Mr. Stewart is very active in community affairs. At Fort Collins he has been president of Rotary, director of the United Fund, chairman of the Society for Crippled Children and Adults, president of the school board, Poudre District, and regional vice president of the Colorado Association of School Boards representing Larimer, Weld and Boulder Counties. Last December he was designated by combined service clubs as winner of the "Fort Collins Community Builder Award for 1966."

The Stewarts are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

John Stewart, who succeeds Ralph L. Partridge as manager of the Fort Collins factory of The Great Western Sugar Company, has been manager of the Ovid factory since 1948.

Stewart was born at Salt Lake City June 25, 191.3, son of the late Bernard J. Stewart, attorney and livestock man, and Leonora Cannon Stewart.

Stewart married Miss Belle Fillmore of Provo, Utah, August 2.3, 1937, at Salt Lake. They have three daughters: Jean, 14, Kathleen, 12 and Ruth, 7, and one son, John Parker, one year old. The Stewarts have taken an active part in the conmrunity life of the Ovid district. Mr. Stewart is a member of the Rotary Club of Sedgwick County.

Raised in Utah, where his father had ranching interests near Salt Lake City.

Attended Salt Lake schools and the Utah State Agricultural College. Served nearly five years in the Second World War, both anti-aircraft artillery am infantry, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on his discharge.

Went to work for the Company in 1936, and has served as fieldman in the Longmont and Brighton districts since. Now holds position as Assistant to the Manager of the Brighton and Fort Lupton districts.

John Stewart was commissioned a second lieutenant in the

Mary upon his graduation from the Utah State Agricultural College

at Logan, Utah, in 1934. On March 19, 1941 he was orden d to active duty

as a first lieutenant with the 69th Coast Artillery (Antiaircraft) at

Camp Hulen, Texas. While be was assigned to this organization he attended

the Coast Artillery School at Fort Monroe, Virginia, and participated in the Third Army Maneuvers in Texas and Louisiana, and the First Army Ma n-euvers in North Carolina. At the time of Pearl harbor he was scheduled to go with his regir ent to the Phillipines; but the outbreak of the war caused

a change in orders and the regiment was sent to San Diego, California, to

set up antiaircraft defenses of that area. In San Diego John served as ~gimental supply officer and battalion executive.

In November, 1941 he was promoted to Captain, and September, 1942 to -Major.

He left San Diego to go to Camp Davis, North Carolina to attend

the Antiaircraft School, after which he v.as sent to Camp Haan, California,

to help activate the 42nd Antiaircraft Artillery Group. He remained with

this unit until Decerr.ber, 1944, serving as supnly, operations and plans and trai:iing, and executive officer. In Decemr.er 1944, he went with his u-it to Camp Howze, Texas, where the organization was deactivated. At Camp Howze John assisted in training replacements for Infantry uni ts overseas, being executive officer of an Infantry training battalion there.

In March, 1945, he was sent to the Infantry School at Fort

Benning, Georgia, where he underwent a special conversion course and ms

detailed from Antiaircraft to the Infantry. After completion of this school

he was ordered to Ca,'-P Roberts, California, where at the Infantry Replacement

Training Center thee he was a battalion commander. He held this position
