No. 2 there was a lot of entrapped air in the pumped water having bubbles 1/4" in diameter.

No. 2 was difficult to determine. 161 ft was used in the calculations above but it could have been as great as 175 feet. Some consideration should be given to the amount of water and air mixture above this point and this could reduce the pumping level to as little as 140' for

Run

No. 2 if the·

cascading water could be corrected.

The overall efficiency of this plant is above average but I would expect it to be

reduced by the cascading water and thus the higher efficiency experienced for Run No. 2

may not be representative and could be caused by assuming too great a pumping lift. Probably little coul.d be done to improve this plant.

For Run #2 the discharge was separated into two portions by using the gates at the head. box. The :flow through the underground pipe was 1000 gal/41. 2sec

1460 gpm. A flow of' 500 gal/63.8 sec= 470gpm was discharging through the 10" aluminum pipe.

20gpm was also allowed to seepage. Total discharge

1460 + 470 = 20 = 1950 gpm. Gear head rated at 150HP for pump RPM of 1760.

The efficiency of this pumping plant for both Run #1 and #2 was lower than expected. When the pump RPM was increased to 158o RPM the efficiency increased to 10.4%. I feel that if the engine was opened up even more the efficiency would also increase because both the engine and pump would approach their respective rated speeds of 1500 and 1760 R.P.M. Of' course the pump would produce considerably more water.

Engine was equipped with fan and radiator.

Static water level in new well measured at 83.0 feet below hole in pump base on 10-10-64. Trouble encountered in yield measurement because of pumped sediment. Falling water in new well at 97 feet.

Gearhead rated 70 HP at 1750 RPM of pump

Address: Stapleton Bros. Machine and Tank Co. Plainview, Texas

RPM of gearhead was measured but not recorded. It seems like it was about 2000 RPM which would indicate the pump was turning faster than its design of 1760 RPM.

' The efficiency of this plant is considerably below average and I would suspect worn bowls as a cause for low efficiency.
