NOVIA University of Applied Sciences
Academic year 2014-2015
Studies offered in English to exchange students at Åbo Campus (Turku in Finnish) in
The Degree Programme of Business Administration, Tourism Management and Civic Activity and Youth Work.
Novia UAS stands for quality, education, regional presence and sustainable
development. We apply an integrated Management system of Quality, Environment and Safety, which was certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 at every unit in August 2010. Hence we can offer specialized courses on Sustainable Development.
Novia´s campus in Turku is a fair trade campus area.
One of our main aims is to support our students’ progress into quality and environmentally conscious citizens who can take sustainability into consideration in their future professional roles and we try to encourage students to practice a global sustainable lifestyle as well as to nurture entrepreneurships.
Our Methods of Study
Our curriculum promotes new methods of learning. The traditional teaching approach is replaced by project-based learning. The students at Novia form their own co-operatives or associations already in their first year of study and they work in these companies
throughout their studies. Ways of acquiring knowledge are through training sessions, workshops, study circles etc and the work by the students is supervised by a coach or team coach.
Through research projects and project co-operation with local businesses and organisations, the students and the team coaches build networks and acquire know-how that benefit both themselves, the university and the local society. Our role is to be a dynamic regional actor and this is enhanced by our pedagogical approach and methods of learning.
