P H D P ROGRAM IN F INANCE – APPLY NOW!
The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) invites excellent Master students to apply for the PhD Program in Finance, a five-year full-time program with generous financial support, starting in fall 2017.
The finance department at SSE consists of more than 20 full-time faculty members and provides a truly dynamic and stimulating environment with weekly research seminars and several top-quality conferences organized every year. The SSE finance department is also part of the Swedish House of Finance; an initiative that, among other goals, hosts a very comprehensive data center and enables the finance department to invite researchers from top universities such as Chicago, Duke, NYU, Princeton and UCLA for extended and frequent research visits. Overall, the research environment is comparable to that at the very best US business schools.
The program follows the standard US format: rigorous coursework in the first two years and, for the remaining three years, work on research projects that will make up the final thesis. Courses are taught by SSE faculty and various international scholars. In the past, short courses were taught by, for example, Laurent Calvet (HEC Paris), Mikhail Chernov (UCLA) and Amit Seru (University of Chicago).
A strong track record of placing our graduates in leading academic institutions around the world reflects the strengths of the program and the dedication of faculty to support PhD-students. Our graduates have obtained tenure-track research positions at institutions such as New York University (New York, USA), McGill University (Montreal, Canada), University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia), Copenhagen Business School (Copenhagen, Denmark), BI Norwegian Business School (Oslo, Norway), University of Toronto (Canada), and Bocconi University (Milan, Italy).
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
The program is open for students from all countries with all academic specializations, provided they hold a Master degree or equivalent and have a sufficient level of formal training. Students who are currently enrolled in a program and are graduating soon (by July 2017) may apply, too. For SSE MSc students, there is the possibility of a parallel intake. First year SSE MSc students can apply, and if accepted join the PhD program after their completed first year.
To participate in the selection process, a candidate's application must be received by February 1st, 2017.
