Information concerning weather extremes is essential for risk awa-reness in planning of infrastructure and agriculture, and it may also play a key role in our ability to adapt to recurrent or more or less unique extreme events. This thesis presents new statistical metho-dologies to aid climate risk assessment under conditions of climate change. The main focus is on regional precipitation extremes, and a formal test procedure for temporal change detection and a method to characterize spatio-temporal patterns are proposed. In both those cases, the use of data with a high temporal resolution is an important and even central factor for the development of methodology.
