Artificial Gel Antibodies
Changgang XuArtificial gel antibodies are based on the preparation of gel granules in the presence of the protein of interest. After the removal of the protein, the artificial gel antibodies contain recognition sites that can recognize the protein selectively. The gel antibodies can be synthesized against proteins, cells and virus. Moreover, they are stable and cheap to synthesize.
In my project, the selectivity of artificial gel antibodies was determined by free zone electrophoresis which is used to separate small molecules, large molecules and particles (Fig. 1).
Human growth hormone dimer and monomer are two versions of the same protein that have a small difference in the structure and size. When the dimer-specific gel antibodies were incubated with dimer and monomer, the gel antibodies interacted with more dimer than monomer. However, the monomer-specific gel antibodies adsorbed more monomer than dimer.
The above results demonstrate that the artificial gel antibodies have a high selectivity for template proteins.
