After the fall of communism and the accession to the Euro-pean Union, Lithuanians have migrated in large numbers to West Europe. Focusing on the migration channels between Baltic Lithuania and Sweden, this study explains the migrant’s reasons for leaving and what their depar-tures tell us about the inequality and quality of life in the volatile and crisis-ridden societies that they leave behind.
