At preschool, children learn through playing
At preschool, playing is an important part of the children’s development and learning. The children get to try different forms of expression:
they sing, dance, draw and paint. Through playing and through their contact with other children and adults, they also develop their language, both in Swedish and in their mother tongue.
A child can start preschool at the age of one
When your child is three months old, you can sign them up for a place in preschool. The child can then start preschool once they have turned one year old. You can select a preschool and apply for a place

Children stay outdoors in all kinds of weather
At preschool, the children are outside whatever the weather. Warm clothes to cover their whole body and an extra change of clothes is a must. Each child has a shelf of their own where they can keep their things.
Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided at preschool. The child will also have a sleep or rest at preschool during the day.

Who can attend preschool?
The municipality offers a place in preschool or pedagogical care
for children aged 1 to 5 who are registered in the city of Sundbyberg (the address registered with the Swedish Tax Agency).
The child’s parents must be working, studying, looking for work or on parental leave. The length of stay varies, depending on whether you are working/studying or are a looking for work/on parental leave.
Children in need of special development support can be offered a place
in preschool regardless of their parents’
situation. Preschools and pedagogical care exist primarily to promote your child’s development and to give them a chance to meet other children. At the same time, they allow you to work, look for work or study.
What does it cost?
The cost of having a child in preschool is 3 per cent of the family’s total income before tax, with a maximum
fee of SEK 1,510 per month (2021).
If the child is older than 3 years, it costs less.
The fee for siblings is also lower.

If the parent is working or studying:
You decide together with the preschool staff what hours the child will spend
at preschool. The preschools are usually open between 06:30 and 18:30.

Those looking for work (one or both parents) or those on parental leave with younger siblings: As of May 2021,
the child may spend a maximum of 15 hours per week at preschool. The child’s hours will be scheduled between 09:00 and 15:00.
Until 1 May 2021, the figure is 30 hours for children of those on parental leave and 40 hours for children of those looking for work.
Children in need of special support in their development: Will be offered a place as needed.
Open preschool
The child can come to open preschool as of the autumn term of the year the child turns three (the autumn term begins at the end of August). The child is welcome to attend preschool for 15 hours per week.
The open preschool is free of charge. It is intended to prepare the child for school.
For children who are covered by the open preschool, but who attend more than 15 hours of preschool per week, the fee is reduced.
