Title (English)

Development and investigation of immunoassays for detection of β-Amyloid in Gyrolab

Title (Swedish) Abstract

Neurodegenerative diseases pose a great challenge; both measured in quality of life and in resources needed to tackle the effects. Today, 35 million suffer from Alzheimer's disease and the figure is expected to grow along with an aging population. Development of therapy and diagnostic tools are therefore of great importance. In this work the automated immunoassay system developed by Gyros AB, has been applied for detection of β-Amyloid, a peptide responsible for aggregating and exerting neurotoxic effects in the brain. The oligomeric form of β-Amyloid was measured at picomolar quantities in human and mouse CSF, and in mouse brain homogenate.
