Ett exempel på ett digitalt kartmaterial som ges ut på CD-Rom är Africa data
sampler: A geo-referenced database for all African countries (World Resources
Institute 1995). Materialet innehåller digitala kartor i skala 1:1 000 000 för alla afrikanska länder med möjlighet att använda olika lager av information som t.ex. gränser, bosättningar, vägar, markanvändning, skyddade områden etc. Kartmaterialet kräver dock att man har lämplig mjukvara för ändamålet, i det här fallet ArcView. För skolbruk finns också det enklare Africa interactive
maps.
Den ryska kartserien i skala 1:500 000 finns idag, som nämnts ovan, även i digital form. Samtliga Afrika-kartblad finns med på tre CD-Rom. Kartverket distribueras av Omni Resources.
