6. Slutsats

6.5 Förslag till vidare forskning

Studien visar att sambandet mellan miljöprestanda och lönsamhet varierar mellan olika branscher när lönsamhetsmåttet ROA studeras. Det skulle vara intressant att djupare studera varför denna skillnad uppstår mellan olika branscher och på så sätt studera specifika egenskaper som medför att miljöprestanda i vissa fall leder till lönsamhet för miljöinnovativa företag och i andra fall inte. I vidare studier skulle resultatet kunna baseras på andra former av data i syfte att skapa

jämförelser mellan olika typer av insamlingsmetoder. Exempelvis skulle kvalitativa intervjuer kunna ske med företagsledningar hos de större miljöinnovativa företagen vilket skulle kunna leda till djupare förståelse för hur produktionsprocesser faktiskt förbättras hos specifika

miljöinnovativa företag och vilka anledningar som finns bakom deras beslut att agera hållbart.

Företag kommer troligtvis att uppleva ett fortsatt ökat miljötryck från intressenter. Det medför att det vore intressant att genomföra en liknande studie i framtiden för att jämföra om sambandet mellan ökad miljöprestanda och lönsamhet blir starkare. Vissa av de miljöinnovativa företagen som studeras kan komma att utveckla dessa innovationer och på så sätt skapa ännu effektivare produktionsprocesser vilket skulle kunna leda till ökad lönsamheten och ett tydligare samband.

79 Vidare skulle en analys av skillnaden mellan miljöinnovativa företag inom olika länder ge en

djupare insikt kring hur miljöinnovationer och miljöprestanda relateras till lönsamhet på olika sätt beroende på landstillhörighet. Denna analys behövs för att undersöka hur egenskaper som beror på landstillhörighet som exempelvis lagkrav, miljöpolitiska skillnader och teknologisk utveckling påverkar förhållandet mellan miljöprestanda och finansiell lönsamhet. Det skulle även ge

möjlighet att analysera hur olika lagstiftningar som patentlagstiftning påverkar sambandet. Även kulturella och institutionella skillnader skulle kunna analyseras djupare vid en uppdelning av specifika länder.
