Mer forskning inom ämnet behövs för att kunna stärka studiens resultat samt för att kunna förbättra sjuksköterskors förutsättningar i vårdandet, vården för patienterna och samarbetet mellan de olika vårdinstanserna. Författarna rekommenderar ny forskning över ett större geografiskt område för att eventuella skillnader ska kunna identifieras. Att göra en liknande studie fast som en observationsstudie tycker författarna vore intressant för att undersöka om sjuksköterskornas upplevelser stämmer överens med observationerna. Studier inom ämnet som istället utgår från patient- och anhörigperspektivet ser författarna ett behov av för att ytterligare belysa hur vården kan förbättras. Dessa studier hade även varit viktiga för att ta reda på om sjuksköterskors upplevelser stämmer överens med patienters upplevelser.
Samarbetet mellan de olika vårdinstanserna verkade spela en betydande roll för patientens vård och forskning om hur de andra vårdinstanserna upplever samarbetet tror författarna hade varit givande och kanske gett en mer nyanserad bild. Psykisk ohälsa upplever författarna är ett stigande samhällsproblem och mer forskning behövs.
