State of Generosity

BASIL VENDRYES has been Principal Violist of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra since 1993. He is a former member of the San Francisco Symphony, the New York Philharmonic and the Rochester Philharmonic orchestras. As violist with the Aurora String Quartet (1986-95) Mr. Vendryes performed extensively, and recorded the complete Mendelssohn Quartets for Naxos. He currently serves on the faculties of the Lamont School of Music (University of Denver), the Castleman Quartet Program, the Lamont Summer Academy, Green Mountain Music Festival in Burlington, Vermont and the Interharmony International Music Festival in Italy.

Mr. Vendryes has served on the faculties of Biola University (CA), California Summer Music, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory Division, and the Green Valley, Las Vegas and Mon-tecito International Music Festivals. He is also the founder/director of the Colorado Young Sinfonia, a chamber orchestra comprised of some of the best young talent in the Denver region. Working with young talent is one of his passions, and Basil has given classes in viola and chamber music through-out the United States. The 2016-17 season includes appearances in California, Florida, Michigan, New York, Tennessee, and Vermont in addition to numerous performances in the Denver area. Basil Vendryes studied at the Manhattan School of Music and the Eastman School of Music, working with Sally O’Reilly, Francis Tursi and Heidi Castleman. He has recorded for Columbia, Phillips, Decca, RCA and Nonesuch, as well as chamber music for the Albany, Ariel, Cadenza Music, Centaur, CRI and Naxos labels. Mr. Vendryes plays on a rare Italian viola made in 1887 by Carlo Cerruti.

CHRISTOPHER THOMPSON joined the music faculty at Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2012. He is a much sought-after collaborative pianist, having worked with instrumentalists and singers at the Lamont School of Music, University of Colorado-Boulder College of Music, North-western University School of Music, DePaul University School of Music, and Chicago College of Performing Arts. He has been a faculty member at the Lamont Summer Academy since 2015. Professional engagements as a pianist and chamber musician have included performances at Grand Teton Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Linton Chamber Music Series in Cincinnati, Dame Myra Hess Series at the Chicago Cultural Center, Civic Orchestra of Chicago Chamber Ensembles, Music Institute of Chicago, Chicago Chamber Musicians, WFMT, Colorado Public Radio and at Weill Recital Hall in NYC.

He has performed in master classes given by Marilyn Horne, Thomas Hampson, Frank Lopardo, Warren Jones, Paula Robison, William Bennett, Midori, Richard Stoltzman, among others. He worked as a coach for Opera Colorado, El Paso Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, and was on the faculty of the National High School Music Institute (Northwestern University) from 2008-2010.

Mr. Thompson received a MM in performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a BM in performance from Oberlin Conservatory, where he was the winner of the concerto competition. He received fellowships to study at the Aspen Music School for two summers and the Music Academy of the West. His teachers have included Joseph Schwartz, John Perry, Michael Chertock, Warren Jones, and Anne Epperson.
