-This off-channel reservoir would possess an advantage in that

the recovery of flood flow ~ould be nore certain because of

the two sources of sup)ly, namely, Long Canon and the river

itself . At the present time there is a filing on record

covering this r~servoir site, and shous the Model Irrigation

District as claimant. Should this Long Canon Reservoir

project be developed t;here "!!vould likely be a question as to

wheth~n· ol~ not any cou1tnon benefit would accrue to the water

users ix this valley. This reservoir ~te is located about

f ive miles u~strean from Trinidad.

The Wet Canon ResGrvoir site -is located on a side

channel tributary some 18 to 20 mil(-:lS upstrear"' from t~1e city.

It is said ·that it is possible hE~re to divert ·li;;-ater fro,!. the main river c~annel through

an

inlet canal into this basin,

but because of the much hieher al t i t~J_de the flood J'lov in

the river at t:v=~ point of di-version iJ/Oulo not 1Je Bxpected to

pJ:ovide a very material a.Jnount of water. r~flhere is evidence

of more or less flood flow in all side chai~el tributari~s.

The reservoir s:i te at Primero is loco. ted on tte main

12,000 acre~feet. The track of the Colorado-Wyo~ing

Railroad Company traverses the site. The requirements of

safety would require n substantial dam, probably a concrete

structure 100 feet high, having a large spi.ll1J.'ay. Because

of the limited capacity it woulr most likely result in a

comparatively high cost when based on the unit of acre-feet

of storage. The several side channel reservoir &tes above
