Inga könsskillnader vad avser upplevd stress framkom i
resultatet.

Abstract Within the environment of universities, stress is a common phenomenon.
Young adults, who begin to study, face the freedom of controlling their daily habits and lifestyle. This may result in unhealthy life habits. Earlier research has shown that physical activity serves as an excellent coping strategy against self-perceived stress, which grounded our choice of subject to this study.
The aim of this study was to examine students self-perceived stress In relation to physical activity.
The method in use was quantitative and comprised 186 students, 80 men and 106 women, chosen by a convenient election. These individuals answered a questionnaire about their self-perceived stress and about their training habits. The statistical programme SPSS was used in the
statistical analysis of the result.
The result of the study did not show any significant correlation between self-perceived stress and physical activity. Nevertheless the result pointed out a correlation between self-perceived stress and anxiety before
training. No gender differences were shown in the result.
The study did show how important the experience of the training is. It’s a great difference, concerning symptoms of stress, between the individuals who experienced their training as joyful and those who experienced their training as anxiety-ridden.
It’s necessary to continue examine this area because stress is a growing community problem and cost society a large amount of money. An idea to continued research is to make a more extensive study where stress is measured with an exact and validated instrument. It would also be interesting to focus the research on individuals’ experience of physical activity.
