In the networked society people, knowledge, devices, and information are networked for the growth of society, life and business.
The Networked Society is when people, business and society are using connected
devices to their benefit.
Master’s Thesis:
Development and evaluation of resource distribution algorithms
Description of unit:
Ericsson Research, which provides Ericsson with system concepts, technology and methodology, to secure long term competitive products. We drive world-class innovation through cooperation within Ericsson and with partners, customers, universities and research institutes.
Purpose/background:
With data traffic growing at an unprecedented rate, mobile operators are forced to densify their deployments to be able to provide better data rates to the end users. There are many ways to improve the end-user
performance in an interference limited scenario, for example by increasing the available bandwidth by assigning additional spectrum, by increasing the available resources for users via increasing the order of sectorization (in horizontal and vertical plane) or by deploying additional base stations. The preferred option depends on the network scenario and traffic distributions, and the network needs to know when to activate such resource distributing algorithms and which type of resource distributing method that can be beneficial under the current network scenario. The purpose of this thesis work is to develop a self-optimization algorithm that uses resource distribution to optimize the network capacity and continuously adapts to the variations in the traffic over time and space.
Thesis description: The main objective of this thesis work is the development of a self-optimization algorithm that dynamically distributes the resources depending on the traffic variations by distributing spectrum or by changing the order of sectorization. This will involve theoretical work along with implementation, evaluation and verification of the optimization algorithm in a network simulator.
Competence:
This project aims at Master of Science (civilingenjör) students in electrical engineering, computer science, or computer engineering. Matlab and/or Java is our primary tool for modeling and simulation work, and excellent Matlab and/or Java knowledge and programming skills is a must. Background in optimization theory and telecommunication is preferred. Applicants with less than B/4.0 in average grade will not be considered.
