DESIGN PHASE - FIRST SKETCHES
DESIGN PHASE - THE CLOVER LEAF
NEW INSPIRATION
Sabah Foundation building, Malaysia. Load bearing central core, circular rooms and a “free-floating” first floor enabled by the hanging structure. Can the space below this first floor be used to create a thrilling, open space within or outside the school building?
INSPIRATION
Can the plan of a medieval castle be used as inspiration for class room design? What if the principle of weapons spreading bullets at wide angles is used in reverse, for letting light in?
Can the clover design, with a central core
providing functionality and exiting connections
between rooms, be used for creating exiting
spaces for a school environment?
FINAL DESIGN - FACADE TOWARDS STREET
Main entrance, towards the street. Visitors meet a transparent, central plaza comprising public library, work places, and school functions such as studios, scenes and workshop areas. All class rooms are located in the three upper floors
of the two towers. The pre-school, sports facilities, food court, and administrative parts of the school are located in the wings of the lower part of the building, making them easy accessible for transports and for visitors during hours
when the school is closed.
