6.3 Förslag till fortsatt forskning
För framtida forskning föreslår vi ett systematiskt undersökande på förhållandet mellan information anxiety och bibliotek. Detta till förmån för att anpassa begreppet till användare både i den analoga och digitala miljön. Vi skulle också önska att se en breddning av forskningen gentemot folk- och skolbibliotek, att inte bara fokuset ligger på studenter och akademiska bibliotek. Det finns många olika sorters
bibliotek och för användarna många olika sorters användningsområden. Om ett sätt att minska ångestkänslor, vare sig de relaterar till bibliotek eller information, är genom biblioteksintruerande lektioner, varför inte forska i vad det får för följder om barn får biblioteksvana i ett tidigt skede?
Det kan vara svårt att fånga upp användare som aldrig besöker det lokala
folkbiblioteket, men det borde ses som en utmaning. Kanske en utökad satsning på uppsökande verksamhet med utökade resurser gör att vi kan fånga upp dessa? Det hade också varit intressant att kika på om det finns en möjlig minskning av library anxiety kopplade till bibliotek som har obemannade öppettider då den som har möjligheterna att utföra sina, visserligen begränsade, biblioteksärenden inte behöver interagera med personalen.
Att man kan se direkta effekter på studenters studieresultat genom att de inte använder biblioteket är bekvämt och något handfast att försöka åtgärda, men att påstå att det är konsekvenslöst att användare undviker folkbibliotek på grund av ångest vore att dra förhastade slutsatser. Vidare önskar vi kanske ett skiftat fokus från att konstruera lokala mätinstrument till att forska på hur bibliotekarier faktiskt kan arbeta för att motverka användares uppkomna ångestkänslor. Oavsett hur mätinstrumenten modifieras, eller hur många som konstrueras, verkar resultaten visa att ångestkänslorna alltjämt verkar finnas. Kanske finns det fog för att undersöka huruvida man bör tala om en slags institutionell olustkänsla generellt och ur en bibliotekskontext speciellt?
