6.2 VIDARE FORSKNING
Den största typen av innehåll i de citerade YouTube-videoreferenserna är en inspelad föreläsning, och den kan sägas spela en likande roll som referenshänvisningen personlig kommunikation (material som författaren har tagit del av men som ofta inte går att referera: t.ex. brev, e-post, intervjuer, telefonsamtal, föreläsningar, föreläsningsanteckningar eller liknande), med den skillnaden att den inspelade händelsen här finns tillgänglig hos tredje part: YouTube. Det skulle vara intressant att göra en liknande studie på någon annan videouppladdningstjänst, så som Vimeo, eller referenser till information från webbsidor innehållandes public domain-material (material med fri användning/ utan upphovsrätt) t.ex. Wikimedia Commons, för att undersöka likheter och/ eller skillnader.
Vad spelar sajten YouTube för roll i citeringen av videomaterial? Sajten har möjliggjort fri tillgång och uppladdning av videomaterial och, skulle fler forskare använda online-videomaterial för att understödja argument i sina artiklar om det fanns ett alternativ till YouTube? Det går inte att utesluta att attityderna kring YouTube, spelar lika stor roll som attityder kring fenomenet att referera videomaterial över lag. Jag tror att attityderna kring just YouTube som företag, spelar en avgörande roll i om videor uppladdade där, refereras eller inte. Attityder och åsikter går att undersöka med intervjustudier eller andra metoder som t.ex. enkäter. Risken, och det man bör vara medveten om, är att det kan bli svårt att generalisera och sammanställa sådana undersökningar, då citeringsbeteenden är (som nämnts tidigare) högst personliga och individuella (Cronin, 1984).
Undersökningen av citeringskontexten visade bl.a. att nästan hälften (45%) av hänvisningarna till videoreferenser görs med koppling till referensens medium. Här skulle det vara intressant att se om detta citeringsförfarande är signifikant för just referenser till videomaterial. I vilken utsträckning hittar vi ledtrådsord som: bok, artikel, avhandling, paper osv. i fråga om hänvisningar till textbaserade källor? Det skulle också vara intressant att undersöka möjligheten att träna en artificiell intelligens på att känna igen olika refereringskontexter, citeringspraktiker och cue-words, för att kunna automatisera processen att urskilja videoreferenser.
