POEM FDR SUCCESS Figure it out for yourself,

You've all that the greatest have had; Two arms, two hands, two legs, two eyes, And a brain to use if you would be wise, With tl1is equipment they all began---

--So start from the top and say, "I can."

Look them over, the wisg 8nd the great, They take their food from a common plate, And similiar knives and forks they use, With similiar laces they tie their shoes; The world considers them brave and smart,

Nol

S'nown

But you've all they had when they made their start.

You are the handicap you must face,

You are the one who must choose your place. You must say where you want to go,

How much you will study the truth to know; God has equipped you for life, but He Lets you decide what you want to be. Courage must come from the soul within, You must furnish the will to win.

So figure it out for yourself,

You wera born with all that the great have had; With your equipment they all began.

Get hold of yourself and say, "I can." ---Author, unknown

SENIOR CLASS HISTORY

Only 14! !! Yes, this was the future class of "64". September

9, 1961, was just the beginning of our busy 3~ months.

Orientation was filled with frantic trips to the hospital for

fallopian tubes, picnics, numerous introductions, ice cream at

Michelle's, physicals, initiation, and learning house rules the

hard way.

Before we knew it the midnight oil was burning over anatomy

and physiology and in a few hours we were on the bus to CC once

again. Dur bulletin boards soon became cluttered with needles,

syringes, and tubes of various sizes to indicate our progress in

nursing.

At last the much awaited day came and all 14 achieved the high

status of freshmen. We received our caps after many hours of dis-cussion of the best type of starch and "how do you remove the scorch?''

Off duty hours were never dull with plenty of dates (too many!),

trips to the hill, and sunbathing at the lake.

Our junior year held much for us: At Children's we counted drops, forced fluids, did fractional dosages, dodged in and out of

oxygen tents, in addition to learning all about children. We'll all

remember the housemothers, librarian, and "You better get at it" (2C)o

Psychiatry at the State Hospital offered much: reading assignments,

delicious food, psychotherapy (cards, pool, IPR1s), psych techs.

to frustrate the libido, patient dances, and last but not least, "I appreciate your feelings, BUT---"• In DR we contaminated, lost needles, counted sponges, tolerated frustrated doctors, lost hours of

sleep, and---! Intensive therapy offered many blood pressures

(sore ears), "good learning experience." Emergency room ("now what

do I do?"). In Obstetrics we learned the art of presenting prenatal classes, writing case studies, and making formula.

We're now faced with senior experiences --- c3n it really be true

On March 14, 1964, twelve elated girls will walk down the aisle with

the new title of Graduate Nurses, graduate caps and pins, white uniforms

and diplomas to begin their profession.
