JACK B. POWELL
PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER THE GREAT WESTERN SUGAR COMPANY
Jack B. Powell joined The Great Western Sugar Company as an engineer in the Company's Denver General Office in 1947, 28 years ago. During the intervening years, he has built up a wealth of experience in the beet sugar industry in both the agricultural and manufacturing sides of the business.
He has served Great Western as a Factory Manager at factories in Gering and Mitchell, Nebraska; Brighton, Colorado, and Fremont, Ohio. He has been a District Superintendent, and was District General Manager in two of the Company's beet growing areas, one of them in northeastern Colorado and western Kansas, and the other in northern Ohio.
In late 1973, Jack returned to Denver to become Director of Manufacturing and his climb to the top quickened. Just a few months later, in early 1974, he was promoted to Vice President of Manufacturing. Later that same year, he was
promoted again to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, which he remained until June of this year when he took the reins as President and Chief Executive Officer.
Jack hails from the state of Virginia, and completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois in 1947, following three years in the U.S. Army. He is a member of the American Society of Sugarbeet Technologists and the boards of directors of the Beet Sugar Development Foundation and the Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry. He is a former member of the board of trustees of the U.S. Beet Sugar Association. He and his wife Betty are the parents of two grown daughters, and now make their home in southeast Denver.
