Sugar is becoming an increasingly important food in the diet of the world. The demand for sugar will continue to expand as the population and
income of the world grows.
In order to supply this increasing demand for sugar, new production capacity must be constructed and factory personnel must be trained. The Great Western Sugar Company is in a position to help. Great Western has enjoyed a long and profitable history in the United States sugar industry. The key to Great Western's success has been its strong technical capability. According to United States Department of Agriculture data, Great Western has the most efficient sugarbeet factories in the United States. Great Western would like to share its technical expertise with your country. To help accomplish this, Great Western has developed a training program for people who will be
responsible for operating new sugarbeet factories in your country.

Program Objectives
The program is designed to provide people from your country with the skills necessary to efficiently operate a modern sugarbeet factory. Because of the complexity of a sugarbeet factory, the full training program requires one year. Great Western recommends that seventeen key people be sent to participate in the program. Ideally, these seventeen should be well-educated young people who speak English.
The program will combine classroom studies with on-the-job experience, providing each trainee a full and practical knowledge of how to operate a sugarbeet factory. In addition, each person will receive specialized training in one area of sugarbeet processing.
Once this team has completed their training program, they will return home to run your sugarbeet factory and to train others.

The
Training Process
Seventeen key people will be sent to the United States to begin their training program on April 1. The trainees will live for one year in Longmont, Colorado near four of Great Western's beet factories. The initial part of the program will be a two-month introductory class covering the total operation of a sugarbeet factory. It will include classroom lectures from specialists in each area of beet sugar production and handling. Also, included wi!I be video-taped lessons on each special area. These tapes will be available for review by the
trainees at any time. A full set of these tapes
will be given to the trainees before they return home.
If desired, the tapes can be translated into your own language.
The next, and main portion of the training program, will involve practical and on-the-job experience in a sugar factory. The trainees will work on maintenance and repair crews to completely familiarize themselves with the equipment. They will also work with staff support personnel in
Quality Assurance, Engineering, Technical Services, Safety and Environmental Affairs to learn the
necessary functions that each of these departments perform. When the factories begin operations in October, the trainees will work in a factory gaining practical operating experience. Four of the trainees will learn overall operations of the factory.
Sugar production scales at the factory receive the final
product and weigh it tor inventory purposes.
Four will concentrate on maintenance and repairs. Four others will specialize in the operation of the beet end of the factory. Another four will train to operate the sugar end. One will specialize as a process chemist.
After the beet campaign is finished, the trainees will return to the classroom for a review course.
During this time they will be able to discuss what they have learned and go over subjects that are still unclear. Throughout the training program, periodic tests will be given to check each trainee's progress and to identify areas that need
further explanation.
During the final month of the program, special field trips will be organized to equipment manufacturers and other companies serving the beet sugar industry. The overall knowledge and specialized skills
obtained by each trainee will provide your country with a nucleus of well-trained people able to
efficiently manage and operate a modern sugarbeet factory.
