Title (English)

Video enhancement by colour and contrast correction

Title (Swedish)

Video enhancement genom färg- och kontrastkorrektion Abstract

This report investigates an original approach to video colour and contrast enhancement for a consumer digital video camera. The contrast correction uses a S-shaped non-linear pixel transformation. It takes visual acuity into account, and modifies badly exposed images and brings back colour. The colour enhancement is based on the assumption that saturated colours increase perceived image quality. The algorithm combines scaling and polarization of chroma to achieve optimal colourfulness and thereby perceived colour quality. Indeed, the resulting application gives a robust and pleasing result and works in real-time for video.
