Whitney Newton I ,...-new director of GW research and chemicalc--=- ~
control, was born in Pueblo, Colo. He attended Colorado Military Academy
and Chauncey Hall, Boston, and was graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1943, winning his master• s degree, 1944, in chemical
engineering.
Commissioned an ensign in 1944, he studied naval engineering at
Princeton and Cornell, served in the South Pacific and Japan, and left the service, lieutenant j. g., in 1946.
Mr. Newton joined Great Western in 1946 as a chemist at Fort
Collins, then was transferred to the research laboratory in Denver. He was made head of the company's process development laboratory at
Loveland in 1950 and was appointed assistant director of research in 1953.
