In this Thesis, novel properties have been added to so called MAX phases through alloying known phases with hitherto unexplored M and X elements. The focus has been directed towards attaining magnetic
proper-ties, obtained by substituting Cr with Mn in Cr2AlC,
Cr2GeC, and Cr2GaC systems. Substitution of C with O
in Ti2AlC has also been investigated, covering the full
range of O concentrations for which tunable conducti-vity has been suggested.
