ADDITIONAL MATERIAL ON RALPH T. SMITH
His appointment as cashier of the Ovid factory is a home-coming for Ralph T. Smith. He was born at Sedgwick, Colo., son of the late A.H. Smith who grew sugar beets on the Varner-Rinn farm. As a youngster he thinned many a row of beets.
Mr. Smith attended elementary and high schools at Ovid and after his graduation in
1939
did odd jobs until1941
when he went into defense work at the Sidney, Nebr. ordnance plant. He entered the air force in1943,
served18
months in Italy as a sergeant and was en route to Japan when the war ended.Mr.
Smith entered GW service as assistant storekeeper at Ovid in1946.
He was ma.de timekeeper there in1947
and came to the Denver office as an accountant in1954.
Meanwhile he had taken accounting courses in correspondence school.He married Miss Edythe Hansen of Julesburg in
1947.
They have five children: Deanna, 15; Martha K., 10; Douglas,7;
Jennifer,3,
and Charles, six weeks old.The Smiths are members of the Lutheran church.
