Dear
Mr.Kuiper:
This is a brief report of Region 7, Bureau of Reclamation activities
in Colorado for the period January 9 to March 1, 1963:
FRYINGPAN-ARKANSAS PROJECT OFFICE
As of March l, 1963, the project had 51 employees--39 in the field
and 12 in the Pueblo office.
Most field activities on the project were concerned with the Ruedi
Darn and Reservoir site. Core drilling at that site has progressed
satisfactorily. The results are being analyzed by our geologists.
Survey activities on highway relocation at the Ruedi site progressed
slowly due to adverse weather conditions

Studies are still being made of the possible operating coordination
of the Homestake Project with the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project. Good
progress is being made and there is basis for considerable optimism
that significant mutual benefits will be developed.
DENVER DEVELOPMENT OFFICE
Narrows Unit, Missouri River Basin Project
The results of the site selection study for Narrows versus
Weld
County darn sites were reported to the Steering Committee on February
13 by the Area Engineer and staff. In surranary, the studies indicate
areas are situated: (a) just below Denver; (b) in the
vicinity of Sterling; and (c) in the vicinity of Julesburg.
9. Our study revealed that well pumping probably will be
reduced in the valley by 1990. This is apt to occur
be-cause, with more water in the streams, well pumpers can get more water under their existing water rights and so would reduce pumping to save power costs.
Trinidad Project
Meetings were held with the various ditches in the Trinidad proj-ect to resolve problems of water distribution and repayment within
the area. While some progress was made, complete acceptance of
these formula have not been resolved. Three modifications of the
internal operating criteria were requested by the District, their hydrologic effects were analyzed, and the findings reported back
to the district. The effects of these modifications on economic
feasibility of the project are yet to be tested. -;
