Studiens syfte var att undersöka hur HR-arbetet organiseras samt hur HR-funktionens och linjechefernas roller påverkas av organiseringen. Fler studier skulle behövas för att skapa ytterligare kunskap inom området, med förhoppning att det skulle bidra till att hitta fler alternativ för att organisera HR-arbete. Vidare hade det varit intressant att undersöka hur samspelet fungerar mellan linjechefer och HR-funktionen inom offentlig sektor och sedan jämföra resultatet med den privata sektorns resultat.
Av studien framgår det att linjecheferna har en tidskrävande arbetsroll vilket kan antyda på hög arbetsbelastning, vilket gör det intressant att studera huruvida linjechefernas psykosociala hälsa påverkas av de adderade HR-relaterade arbetsuppgifterna. Det hade även varit intressant att gå djupare och undersöka hur andra parter i organisationen påverkas av organiseringen av HR-arbetet. Slutligen hade det varit av intresse att studera resultatet av när fungerande stödfunktioner används vid HR-organisering samt en ökad kompetens hos linjecheferna. Detta för att se om det hade lett till att HR-funktionen får utrymme att utveckla sin roll och därmed sitt strategiska arbete, samt om det hade gynnat linjechefernas roll.
